This course will work with basic bricklaying tools and techniques. You will learn about different types of bricks, gain an understanding of different bricklaying patterns and an awareness of what mortar to use for a particular project. You will work with different bricklaying methods and gain a practical understanding of how to tackle small bricklaying DIY jobs at home in a professional way. You will be required to bring and wear your own safety boots.

Do you already have some basic bricklaying skills and knowledge? If so, this course is for you. You will build upon your basic knowledge and skills, gaining more experienced techniques to assist you in becoming a more proficient and professional bricklayer. You will be required to bring and wear your own safety boots.

This OCN underpinned course will teach you basic bricklaying skills and techniques. You will create a portfolio of work which will document and illustrate the subject knowledge and skills learnt on the course. This accredited course could be your first step towards a career as a bricklayer. You will be required to bring and wear your own safety boots.

A10-week course aimed at the complete beginner, where you will learn carpentry skills and techniques to help you create a small box. An additional £5 charge will be levied for materials to make the final small hardwood box. If possible a trip to a Nottingham wood yard will be arranged for learners to gain an insight into the different types of wood available. Your tutor will discuss this at the start of the course. Note: an apron will be provided but sensible shoes or boots must be worn in the workshop.

This short course will cover basic electrical theory and what to avoid doing that may cause electrical accidents. This course will also look at appropriate tools to use when carrying out electrical work in the home as well as basic health and safety when carrying out simple electrical work. In addition what electrical systems can be used in your home to protect it and how you use these will also be covered. This course is for people who would like to learn more about basic electrics in the home and perhaps get an introduction into the electrical trade.

This course will cover the very basics of painting and decorating in a professional way, including preparation, working with the appropriate tools, paint application (to a professional standard) and the basics of paper-hanging, working with different paints, looking after ?tools' used, colour and design (from an interior design angle) and using the right paint for the right job. It is ideal for people who wish to learn the basic skills. There will be an additional fee of £5 per learner (regardless of whether you are eligible for fee-remitted learning) during Week One of the course for resources. Learners are asked to wear old clothes or bring an apron/overalls to class.

This course is for learners with a practical understanding and awareness of painting and decorating skills but wishing to learn more. This course will share professional skills allowing you to develop your knowledge so that you can decorate to a high standard. This course is designed to teach you plastering skills and techniques at a beginners level. You will learn how to skim walls and ceilings to a professional smooth finish, plaster to a tight angle, and make invisible repairs to small areas. Please wear old clothes or an apron.

This course is to teach the basic skills required to tile small domestic areas such as bathroom and kitchen walls. You will learn how to measure an area for tiles, how to professionally cut tiles, how to grout and a whole range of other essential skills to help you achieve a professional tiled finish in your home. This course will teach you basic skills, principles and techniques of wall papering. You will learn how to cross line, match up edges and apply wall paper to a professional standard. This course will cover basic skills such as putting a shelf up, mending a door, fitting a skirting board, mitring an architrave, types of studded wall, what screws to use on what surfaces, how to avoid hidden services, health and safety when carrying out DIY jobs and lots of ?tricks of the trade' which could save you money and help you carry out a DIY job in a professional way.
