Mathematics
This is the qualification, at grade C or above, that is regarded by many employers and colleges as a prerequisite for employment and/or progression to further qualifications. This fairly intensive one-year course is offered at Foundation Level GCSE (Grades C-G) with the possibility, with additional home study, of achieving the qualification at Higher Level (Grades A*-D). The course includes: arithmetic, application of number, trigonometry, algebra, probability, trigonometry, statistics and shape and symmetry. It is assessed by three examinations totalling three and three quarter hours. It is a demanding course and there is the need for work set in class to be completed outside of the session on a weekly basis. NB There is a range of other opportunities to study maths at pre-GCSE level detailed in the ?Bridging the Gap' section of the brochure.
