This is an introductory qualification that will confer a 'threshold licence to teach'. ALL new teachers in the learning and skills sector must complete this qualification. This award comprises one unit: - Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector. To achieve the qualification, candidates must successfully complete both the theory and practice assignments covering all five sections. It has a value of 6 credits, requiring 30 contact hours and 30 non-contact hours.

This will be taken by those deemed to be in the Full Teaching Role. It will comprise Level 4 and Level 5 mandatory and optional units, but will be awarded at Level 5 on completion, providing a total of 120 credits. The Diploma requires at least 150 hours of teaching practice. There will be a minimum of eight observations totalling a minimum of 8 hours.

This is a work-based Level 3 certificate in assessing candidates using a range of methods. It is aimed at those who already have experience in their field. The A1 covers four areas: - Developing plans for assessing competence with candidates - Judging evidence against agreed standards to make assessment decisions - Giving candidate feedback and support on assessment decisions - Contributing to the internal quality assurance procedure.
