Welcome to Sutton Centre Community College

Sutton Centre has been a highly successful Community College since 1973. Our mission is to provide the very best learning opportunities for the whole community and to help all our students achieve first class qualifications. We believe in nothing less than outstanding teaching, learning, care, and guidance for our young people, and in first class lifelong learning for families, parents, carers and adults.

We are one of only 103 schools nationally to gain Leading Edge status for the achievement of our students and out innovative work in the community, and we are consistently one of the highest in the County for our “value added” for children of all abilities. We have gained the Healthy Schools Gold standard, the Sportsmark Award, Artsmark Gold status, and in 2010 we achieved re-designation in Specialist School status for Business & Enterprise and the Arts.

We are proud of our pupils’ achievements at GCSE and AS/A level, which have steadily and consistently improved in recent years. Our Sixth Form numbers continue to grow, with the great majority of our students moving on to Higher Education. We offer excellent support and opportunities for all ages through an ever expanding range of academic, vocational and leisure activities.

Our academic success is founded on secure relationships between staff, students and parents throughout the College.

“There is very effective communication between the school and parents, who are engaged with, and well-informed about, their children’s education and the progress they are making”
(Ofsted 2010)

Simon Martin | Acting Principal

We work closely with our local primary schools and have established careful and caring transition procedures. College staff invest a great deal of time and effort to ensure that the move to secondary school is a positive experience for children and parents (more information here). The College works closely with parents, and with our Extended Services provision (for which we hold the Quality in Extended Services Award) we now have a Family Study Support Worker and a Participation Worker, who welcome any opportunity to speak with parents.

“A particular strength of the school is the support for pupils transferring from primary schools”
(Ofstead 2010)

We offer an outstanding range of adult and community education courses to support families and to progress local adults in their own learning needs and life progress.

On behalf of the Governing Body and staff I offer you a warm welcome to Sutton Centre. In these rapidly changing times I can recommend us to you as a forward-thinking Community College committed to the development of skilled, responsible and caring young people. Educating a young person is an enormous responsibility, but I am confident that we have the skills and understanding to meet that challenge and to provide the very best educational opportunities.
