Art Department

All Year 7, 8 and 9 students follow National Curriculum art – during these early years emphasis is given to developing basic skills in drawing and painting, graphic design and 3D/Sculpture. Extra help is given to those who need it during workshops and 11th sessions. Specially talented students are encouraged to join the GCSE group, where we continue to have a high success rate of students achieving Grade A* - C.

In Year 9 students can choose the GCSE course in which they are most interested. GCSE courses are offered in either 3D/Sculpture; 2D drawing and painting, Graphic Design, Printmaking and limited 3D. These GCSE courses are very popular and can give a sense of achievement and recognition on an individual basis.

Art is also a popular and thriving AS and A2 Level for those students wishing to follow a creative career in the Art or Design based industries. Many students continue onto Foundation courses. Projects are inspired by 20th Century artists.
As part of the Business and Enterprise initiative, we have had Artists in Residence working with our students, as well as pursuing projects in collaboration with Technology and English.
